Everything you need to know about wall heaters

Why Gas wall Heaters are good for your home

Gas wall heaters are known to be very effective heat producers. Once you turn them on, the heat just starts blasting away and melts you. Gas wall heaters can really help heat up rooms that don’t get any warmth from the central heating system.

Cost Savings of gas wall heaters

One of the biggest advantages to running a wall heater is that it provides savings. This is all dependent on the size of the room because as you want to heat a large room, you will need higher BTU’s 10,000+. A small wall mounted gas heater  will be able to heat up any room within 5 – 15 minutes.

To see the cost-saving benefit, you have to evaluate the entire house. The central heating system will heat up your whole house which may have 5 + rooms.

How many of those 5 rooms are being used or utilized? If only 1 room is being occupied then heat from the central system is just going to waste in the other rooms of the house. It is understandable if you are having a large gathering but in the long run this will cost you more.

Portability of wall heaters

Propane or gas wall heaters are portable and versatile. They can be placed anywhere in the house with ease. The larger heating units will require assistance in installing them.

Just because its portable does not mean it should be placed anywhere. Always be mindful of where you place the wall heater. Make sure it is in a location with solid foundation. For safety reasons, it would be best to mount the wall heater units. This will protect your kids and pets from getting hurt by loose wires and pipes.

It is best not to install the propane wall heater close to easily flammable or combustible items. 31% of nonfined building heating fires were due the heat source being close to combustibles. This was a study done in 2010 by the U.S. Fire Administration.(More info)

Ventless Gas Wall heaters

Be cautious with using ventless gas wall heaters as they require extra maintenance. A ventless wall heater will put the exhaust directly back into your living space. In a new machine, it will go through proper filters and scrubs that eliminate the carbon monoxide by-product. But over time the filters need attention.

All of the new propane wall heaters (Mr Buddy, etc..) have internal CO sensors that shut off the gas if oxygen levels deplete. But do not solely rely on this. Regularly check the filters to ensure your machine is clean.

Place the ventless wall heater in a location that has good airflow. Do not put in small locations with no air flow. This is asking for trouble. If you do, open a window or a door.
